What kind of floor protectors should I use?
Frequently moved furniture should have wide, smooth, non-staining, protective load bearing rests installed. Hard plastic glides are common and should be non-pigmented and at least one inch in diameter. Felt pads are acceptable. Rubber type floor protectors may stain your Tarkett floor.

Refer To The Tarkett Installation & Maintenance Manual

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I maintain my new Tarkett floor?
We suggest the use of our Tarkett SureShine(r) products. In the Tarkett SureShine® product line, we have cleaner, and both high-gloss and matte-satin polishes. We believe you will be well satisfied with the performance of these products; they will keep your flooring looking new for many years to come.

What kind of wood underlayment is approved by Tarkett?
Tarkett recommends a minimum of 1/4-inch American Plywood Association (APA) approved plywood be used; this is the best underlayment for our products. We also allow the use of lauan, but it must be exterior grade, Type 1 Exterior that has a fully waterproof glue bond. The acceptable types are designated with the letter "P" and the acceptable face grades are "CC" and "BB".

How do I remove dried adhesive from my new Tarkett flooring without harming it?
It would have been a relatively easy task to use a cloth dampened with water to remove wet adhesive from your flooring. However, now that the adhesive is dry, a cloth dampened in mineral spirits will have to be used to remove it. The areas where the adhesive was removed should then immediately be rinsed clean with water.

What kind of protectors do I need to put on the bottom of my dining room chairs?
We have found that flat, polished metal glides at least one-inch in diameter provide the best protection for vinyl flooring. They cannot trap dirt in them as felt pads would and the metal glides will glide across the surface of the tile; they do not dig into the floor surface as some plastic type glides do.

What type of mats or throw rugs may be used on my Tarkett flooring that will not cause a stain?
It is best to check with the rug/mat manufacturer to provide you with information as to whether their products will stain vinyl. We can tell you that rubber-backed mats will stain vinyl, so those types should be avoided.

I need a list of dealers in my area where I can purchase Tarkett. Where can I obtain this list?
Please go to our website (www.tarkettna.com/home) and click on the Store Locator link. After you put in your zip code, a list of dealers for your area will pull up.

I have dark scuff marks on my Tarkett flooring that normal, everyday cleaning will not remove. How would I remove those marks?
We recommend wiping the affected areas with a cloth dampened in mineral spirits. You should then immediately rinse those areas with water to remove any residue.

Even though your Tarkett Quik-Stik products have adhesive factory applied to the back of the tiles, can I use additional adhesive?
Yes, you may use TARKETT 800 adhesive with Quick-Stik tiles if you prefer. Our Quik-Stik products are designed with the do-it-yourselfer in mind and have a good quality adhesive applied. No other adhesive is necessary for a successful installation.

Is it really necessary to roll all Tarkett installations?
Yes, every Tarkett installation should be rolled with a 100-pound, three-part roller. A hand roller should be used in areas where the larger roller will not reach. Rolling the flooring will ensure that the adhesive ridges are flattened and any entrapped air is expelled, thereby ensuring a good, proper bond.

What is the formula used when figuring jobs laying Tarkett Elements 12" x 12" and 9" x 9"?
One (1) 12" x 12" and one (1) 9" x 9" is a module equaling 1.56. Take the square footage of the room and divide it by 1.56 to get the total number of modules needed. Divide the total number of modules by the number of pieces in a carton of 12" x 12" and 9" x 9". Don't forget waste factor.

How much waste should be considered for the average PermaStone installation?
Approximately 7% - 10% waste should be factored in on PermaStone installations.

What is the number for Tarkett Technical Services?
1-800-227-4662 or 1-800-367-8275

How may I obtain MSDS sheets, specifications sheets, or technical information on your Tarkett products?
You may fax your request to the Tarkett Technical Department at 610-266-5638 and the information will be promptly faxed to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Tarkett Laminate Flooring have to be acclimated before installation?
Yes. The unopened cartons shall be placed in the room in which they will be installed for a minimum of 48 hours before installation. This will allow the laminate to acclimate to the conditions within the room.

Can Tarkett Laminate Flooring be installed in a basement?
Yes. Tarkett Laminate Flooring can be installed on all grade levels.

Why must an underlayment be used?
The underlayment will help reduce noise transmission, ease minor subfloor irregularities and improve insulation properties.

When must a vapor barrier be used?
A vapor barrier is required when installing laminate over a concrete substrate. A 10 mil (.010") polyethylene sheet is generally acceptable. Various foam underlayments are available with the vapor barrier attached. These are commonly referred to as 3 in 1 foams. Tarkett offers a polyfoam with vapor barrier.

Can Tarkett Laminate Flooring be installed over a radiant heated floor?
Tarkett Laminate Flooring is suitable for installation over underfloor heating systems provided that the heating element is installed at least 2" below the surface of the concrete. Surface temperature should not exceed 85°F (28°C).

Can Tarkett Laminate Flooring be installed over carpet?
Deep pile carpeting and padding must be removed before installing laminate flooring. Tarkett Laminate Flooring may be installed over industrial direct glue carpeting (no padding) that is installed over wood substrates only. Use of a foam underlayment is not recommended for this type of application.

Why is an expansion space needed around the perimeter of the room?
The expansion space will allow for the normal movement of the floor due to climate changes. Tarkett recommends a minimum 5/16" (8.2mm) space around the perimeter of the room as well as any fixed objects.

When must a T-Molding be used?
To account for the normal movement of the floor a T-Molding is required for rooms wider or longer than 40' (12 meters). The T-Molding shall be utilized in the best possible manner, such as doorways or archways.

Will I need to use a hammer and tapping block?
No. Tarkett Laminate Flooring is installed by using the patented T-Loc System. This system allows the planks to be assembled at a 45º angle. The use of a hammer and tapping block is not recommended as this may cause damage to the tongue and groove.

What size must the first and last piece in each row be?
The first and last piece in each row should be at least 12 inches long. In addition, all end joints should be staggered a minimum of 12 inches.

Can Tarkett Laminate Flooring be installed on stairs?
Yes. The laminate will have to be fully adhered using a good quality construction adhesive. Refer to the Tarkett Laminate Installation Instructions for details.

Does Tarkett offer molding pieces?
Yes. Tarkett offers a line of color coordinating transition moldings that includes quarter round, universal reducer, stair nose, flush mount stair nose and T-Molding.

How is Tarkett Laminate Flooring maintained?
Tarkett Laminate Flooring can be maintained by lightly damp mopping with a neutral floor cleaner such as Tarkett SureShine(r) Floor Cleaner. Do not flood floor. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Can a damaged plank be repaired?
Small nicks or gouges can sometimes be repaired by using matching putty. If the damage is severe enough, a plank replacement can be performed without having to disengage the entire floor. Refer to the Tarkett Laminate Installation Instructions for details.
